This meme is somewhat close to my heart in a sense. Matt Mii refers to a CPU opponent from Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort and Wii Party video games for the Wii video game console. In memes, the character is often referred to as the strongest opponent in Wii Sports. I have spent a lot of time on my Wii, and seeing this become a meme is pretty funny as he is seen very often in these games. This meme was short lived, as it died in the middle of February, but it is still worth mentioning. I give this meme a 6.9/10. Here are some examples
Finally, A Worthy Opponent (Lucas)
This meme originated from the movie "Kung Fu Panda.” The character Tai Lung, a villain in the series, speaks the lines used within the photo after escaping prison to steal the secret scroll and fight the Dragon Warrior. This meme is actually pretty funny and brings something new to the meme community. This again is combined with other memes like the Emu War and Will Smith as the Genie. I would give this meme a 9.3/10, because it’s one of the most original memes I have seen in a while.
Will Smith Genie (Lucas)
It seems that Will Smith was just born to be a may-may. This meme originated from Will Smith's portrayal of the character Genie in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Disney animated film Aladdin. The look of him was what became a meme. People started to combine it with other memes like Thanos and YouTube rewind. It’s not really original, but yet again, nothing is original on the internet. Overall, I think that this meme is not really that good, and it’s just a rehash of YouTube rewind, so I would give this meme a 5/10.
Well Yes, But Actually No (Lucas)
"Well Yes, But Actually No" is a misquoted line of dialogue by the character Pirate Captain from the British-American animated short film So You Want to Be a Pirate! At the time that I am writing this, this meme is still pretty fresh, and is one of the better memes to come out of the subreddit called r/HistoryMemes. Most of the time it has been used in more historical ways, like Mussolini and the Soviet Union, but is also used to promote other things like Anti- Vaxers and such. This meme is pretty good, I would give this meme a 6/10.
Shaggy (Zach)
This meme takes Shaggy from Scooby Doo, a show that almost everyone knows of or at least has heard of, and portrays him to be a god. Shaggy memes have been around for a few weeks now, and they all claim that Shaggy is the most powerful being in the universe. These memes also have a huge variety of formats they are used in, both old and new. A popular form of the Shaggy meme is saying that by only using "1% of his power" he can cause massive destruction wherever he is. Shaggy is often paired with other characters that are said to be "gods" in memes, like Shrek, Matt from Wii Sports (see above), and Stefan Karl. Overall, I give this meme a 7/10. It is a good meme because of the variety of forms it can take, but calling a fictional character a god is not an original idea. Herearesomeexamples.
100% / 0% of our brain (Zach)
This meme comes from a scene in the 2014 sci-fi action film Lucy. This memorable line from the movie has since been turned into a meme and began picking up popularity in January 2019. Essentially, the meme consists of this man asking the question "what if we use 100% of our brain?". Then Morgan Freeman is shown thinking, followed by an image that is usually questionable or ironic to the question being asked. While less common, people have also changed the quote up to mean other things, such as the "what if we use 0% of our brain?" variation. I give this meme a 6.5/10, because the images shown in the bottom panel are often funny and make me laugh, but it takes little creativity to create a meme in this format. Herearesomeexamples.
You guys always act like you're better than me (Zach)
This meme format comes from a scene in the popular TV show Family Guy and is used in a variety of ways. It started to gain popularity in early February and was used quite a lot around this time. The most popular way this meme is used is to show a group or organization that is not well-liked by most people, with the bottom panel representing groups that most people do support. This meme can also be used the other way around, with the meaning being that the three things on the bottom panel act like they're better but really aren't. Overall, I give this meme a 6.7/10 because it is entertaining in the ways it is used and gives people a way to express their dislike or liking of something. Herearesomeexamples.
My time has come / My true successor (Zach)
"My time has come" is another meme from Kung Fu Panda, from the character Oogway. It is used as a reaction image to a situation that is mentioned above the image. The point of this meme is usually to show someone facing someone or something that they believe is much more powerful than them (either ironically or non-ironically), and that they are certain they will ultimately lose whatever struggle they are in. It can also be used to poke fun at a person or people who are said to give up too easily, explained by the caption of the meme. Overall, I give this format a 7.6/10 because it has been used in some creative ways, but memes from movie screenshots are nothing new. Herearesomeexamples.
This meme started gaining popularity a couple of weeks after "My time has come" was introduced, and uses a line from the same Kung Fu Panda movie with the same character. This is often seen as a sequel meme to the one above, as it started being used when "My time has come" began to die as a meme. This is also a reaction image format, and the situation above the caption usually involves someone realizing that someone younger than them, such as a younger sibling or child, has the same preferences or opinions as them. This meme is mostly used for people to express their opinions toward different topics, and I give it a 5.5/10. It can be funny at times, but some creativity is taken away from the meme due to its close similarity to the "My time has come" meme. Herearesomeexamples.
Are you delusional? Do you suffer from mental illness? - Dr. Phil (Sean)
"Are you delusional? Do you suffer from mental illness?" -Dr Phil; This meme has become very popular and is relatively new. There is not much to say about this meme other than explain it: It basically just shows something that may seem like bad judgement or something ironic along those lines. After that, the image to the right is displayed. Overall, I would give this meme a 6.9/10 and I hope more memes come out as good as this one.
